Introduction
This Rosary reflection contains the words of Jesus to his disciples at the beginning of the Last Supper discourses found in the Gospel of John.
The Gospel Account
Jesus is the Master of God’s house. Jesus is preparing a place for his disciples, so that they will be with him. In his Father’s house, there are many dwelling places – permanent places to live and abide with God.
The “Jesus Prepares Our Homecoming” Reflection contains first seven verses of Chapter 14 in the Gospel of John. The entire text of the Last Supper discourses start in that Chapter.
The Five Decades
When you pray the five decades of this Rosary Reflection, use these five moments from Jesus’ words in the Gospel passage. Read the Gospel verses for each decade and let the words sink in as you pray that decade.
First Decade: Jesus Asks for Faith in Him (John 14:1)
[Jesus said to his disciples] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.”
Second Decade: Jesus Goes to Prepare a Place for Us (John 14:2)
“In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”
Third Decade: Jesus Will Come Back for You (John 14:3-4)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am, you may also be. Where I am going you know the way.”
Fourth Decade: Thomas Asks the Way (John 14:5)
Thomas said to him, “Master we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?”
Fifth Decade: Jesus is the Way Home to Our Father (John 14:6-7)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
What to Remember
These Gospel verses reflect the assurance that Jesus gave to his disciples, while he lived on earth, before his death and Resurrection to new life. He will return to take them to himself. No one comes home to the Father, except through Jesus. Jesus is the way home to God.
As a follower of Jesus, and a child of God, you have the privilege to know that Jesus has prepared a place for you to dwell with God in love, joy and peace – forever. There will be no sorrow, pain, suffering, distress or fear. Mary’s prayers are with you as she waits for you to arrive at God’s home.
What to Pray For
- For an increase in hope to believe that Jesus has prepared a place for you and your loved ones.
- For a deeper commitment to follow Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life.
- For others may come to believe in Jesus’ care and presence are with them, through your words and actions.
- For God’s Reign to come fully on earth, as in heaven.
Feel free to pray the rosary using these Scripture verses for a deeper hope in Jesus’ saving love.
